Unemployment in Czechia fell to 4.2% in May, number of vacancies slightly increased

Unemployment in Czechia fell to 4.2% in May this year, down from 4.3% in April. This follows from data published on Monday by the Czech Labour Office. However, unemployment increased year-on-year, since in May 2024, it was 3.6%. The number of job seekers registered with the office fell month-on-month by 2,480 to 316,060, while compared to last year there were almost 42,000 more unemployed.

The number of vacancies increased by 615 to 96,413 compared to April. Last May, the office registered almost 267,000 positions. The significant year-on-year decrease is due to a change in the office’s registration system, which removes vacant positions from the database after six months.

The lowest unemployment rate in May was still in Prague with 3.1%. In total, it remained below 4% in eight regions. Despite a slight month-on-month decrease, unemployment was highest again in the Ústí nad Labem Region, where it was 6.5%. In the Moravian-Silesian Region, it was exactly 6%.
