PM Fiala to outline next steps after justice minister’s resignation

Prime Minister Petr Fiala (Civic Democratic Party) is set to announce today how he plans to proceed following the resignation of Justice Minister Pavel Blažek (also Civic Democratic Party), who stepped down over a controversial bitcoin donation. President Petr Pavel has said he is ready to formally remove Blažek and discuss a replacement. MP Eva Decroix (Civic Democratic Party) is widely mentioned as a possible successor. Blažek resigned after it was revealed the bitcoin donation came from a man previously convicted of embezzlement and drug trafficking. The donation earned the state around one billion crowns, which Blažek proposed allocating across the budget. Though the transaction was not illegal, he stepped down to take political responsibility. Opposition wants resignation of the whole government and plans to call the vote of non-confidence in the Parliament.
