Prague Spring presents Mahler’s monumental Symphony of a Thousand

The Prague Spring festival offers the first of two performances of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand on Monday at the Municipal House, featuring the Czech Philharmonic under chief conductor Semyon Bychkov. The massive work—Mahler’s Eighth Symphony—will be performed without intermission, with eight soloists and three choirs. It will be repeated on Tuesday as the festival’s grand finale. Composed as a tribute to Mahler’s wife Alma and first performed in 1910 with over 1,000 musicians, the symphony is celebrated for its spiritual vision and groundbreaking form. Czech soloists Kateřina Kněžíková and Adam Plachetka join international stars in this landmark event.
