Rent remains significantly cheaper than mortgage payments, analysis shows

In December, monthly mortgage payments for purchasing a flat in Czechia were on average 9,245 crowns higher than rental costs, according to a new analysis by the Association of Rental Housing. Although the gap narrowed slightly compared to November, it still widened by 459 crowns year-on-year. The main driver is the steep rise in property prices, which outpaces rental growth and offsets the effects of falling mortgage rates. Association president Jakub Vysocký noted that the gap may continue to close as interest rates drop, but much depends on how quickly housing prices keep rising.
