Fiala admits final deal on Dukovany reactor may not be signed before election

Prime Minister Petr Fiala (Civic Democratic Party) has acknowledged to Czech Radio that the final contract for building new nuclear reactors at Dukovany may not be signed before the current government’s term ends. The company Elektrárna Dukovany II (EDU II) announced earlier on Tuesday that it had filed a motion with the Brno Regional Court to lift the injunction that halted the signing of a final contract for new nuclear reactors at Dukovany. The court order was issued on the request of French company EDF, which is challenging the Czech competition authority’s approval of the Korean KHNP bid. EDU II argues the court acted without allowing input from other parties and says the delay jeopardizes the entire project timeline. The nuclear tender, valued at CZK 407 billion, is the largest public contract in Czech history.
