Prague’s astronomical clock stops to honor victims of speeding-related crashes

In a symbolic gesture, Prague's historic astronomical clock stopped at 11 a.m. on Thursday as part of the National Day Without Rush, commemorating 148 lives lost last year due to speeding. The skeletal figure on the clock rang its bell 148 times—once for each victim. The campaign, organized by the Czech Insurance Association, also delayed the government meeting and several public events by 13 minutes. That time represents the minimal gain drivers make when speeding from Prague to Brno, at the cost of significantly higher risk. Speeding is the second most common cause of accidents in Czechia.
