Number of weddings in Czechia last year was second lowest since 1918

According to preliminary data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ), only some 44,000 couples got married in Czechia last year, making it the second lowest figure since the foundation of Czechoslovakia in 1918. The lowest number was recorded in 2013. Meanwhile, the share of marriages between Czech citizens and foreigners has been growing, reaching a record 15 percent two years ago. Divorce rates have also declined, staying below 40 percent for the past four years. Despite demographic shifts, three-quarters of all weddings are first marriages, with the average age of newlyweds rising slightly over the past decade.
