Senate to approve higher fees for Czech Television and Czech Radio

On Wednesday, the Senate will most likely approve the increase in radio and television fees and the expansion of payers. It will also decide on the so-called ‘flexinovela’ of the Labour Code, which, according to the government, is supposed to make the labour market more flexible.

The Senate is expected to approve the controversial increase in fees by 15 crowns to 150 crowns per month for Czech Television, and by ten crowns to 55 crowns per month for Czech Radio. All three committees that dealt with the proposal, as well as the Senate Media Commission, recommended it. The amendment is intended to ensure that both fees will automatically increase in the future depending on the rate of inflation.

Also on the Senate's agenda are protests against Georgia's departure from the pro-Western direction. Former Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili will address senators on this topic.
