Norway to fund Czech munitions initiative with 8.4 billion crowns

Norway will provide 8.4 billion crowns this year to support the Czech Munitions Initiative, which supplies artillery ammunition to Ukraine, the Norwegian government announced on Monday. It will also provide an additional 2.1 billion crowns to the European Peace Facility to help finance arms supplies for Ukraine’s defence against the Russian invasion.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Störe emphasised that Ukraine urgently needs a steady supply of artillery shells to continue its fight for freedom. He highlighted Norway's previous support for the Czech-led initiative and stressed the importance of replenishing artillery stocks.

Last year, with help from its allies, Czechia delivered over 1.5 million artillery shells to Ukraine. Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský recently noted that, thanks to funding from Norway, Denmark, Canada, and the Netherlands, the initiative could continue supplying shells until September.
