Special municipal elections in six Czech villages draw 53% voter turnout
Saturday’s special municipal elections in six Czech villages attracted 53% of eligible voters, down from 61% in similar elections last December, according to the Czech Statistical Office. The lower turnout may be due to limited candidate choices; most municipalities had only one group of independent candidates. In Ratboř (Kolín region), where voters chose between two lists, turnout was highest at 75%. The lowest was in Solenice (Příbram region) at 40.5%. Of 50 candidates, 34 were elected—21 men and 13 women—with an average age of 46.2. The youngest elected official is 20, and the oldest is 68.
