Due to an aging population, Czechia will need up to 35,700 new beds in senior homes and care facilities by 2040, according to data from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Three-quarters of the new capacity should serve people over 80. In 2023, 97,100 people lived in such facilities—a 17% increase since 2014. The number of residents with dementia has grown by nearly half over the past decade. Without major investment and staffing increases, experts warn of a looming care crisis. By 2040, people over 65 will make up a quarter of the population.
