Tibetan flag hoisted on highest Czech mountain peak, alongside Ukrainian flag

Hundreds of towns and villages around the Czech Republic hoisted the Tibetan flag on March 10, to  commemorate the suppression of the anti-Chinese uprising in the Tibetan administrative centre of Lhasa in 1959, after which Tibet's supreme leader, the 14th Dalai Lama, went into exile. The Flag for Tibet campaign was launched in the mid-1990s in Western Europe to highlight long-standing human rights abuses in Tibet. At the weekend, dozens of people commemorated the anniversary by climbing Mount Sněžka, the country’s highest mountain peak, to hoist the Tibetan flag "on the roof of the republic”. The Ukrainian flag was also hoisted on the mountain top.
