Fernstädtová wins Czechia’s first medal in skeleton at World Championships

Skeleton racer Anna Fernstädtová has won bronze at the IBSF World Championships (bobsleigh and skeleton), the first medal in the sport for Czechia. At the two-day championship in Lake Placid, New York State, she was beaten only by the victor Kimberley Bos (Netherlands) and by Mystique Ro (USA).

Fernstädtová, who competes with type 1 diabetes, has been fourth twice at the World Championships previously, first in 2017 while competing for Germany, and two years later as a Czech representative. Halfway through the championship in Lake Placid, the 28-year-old held the silver position, but after the final two runs on March 7th, Mystique Ro overtook her. The Czech-German skeleton racer was eight hundredths of a second away from silver.

In the men’s competition, Czech Timon Drahoňovský finished twenty-eighth, penultimate position.
