Speed skater Sáblíková takes third in 5000m at World Cup in Calgary

Czech speed skater Martina Sáblíková finished third in the 5000m event at the World Cup in Calgary, setting a season-best time of 6:49.01. The race was won by the Netherlands' Joy Beune in a personal record of 6:45.76, with fellow Dutch skater Merel Conijn finishing second. This marks Sáblíková’s first podium finish of the season, moving her to fifth in the overall standings.  "I'm very satisfied. I skated consistent laps, and a time under 6:50 is great. It was a really good race," Sáblíková said. Despite falling ill last week and missing training days, Sáblíková delivered a strong performance. "I felt unwell since last Saturday, with joint pain and fever keeping me in bed until Wednesday. I don't know how much it impacted the race, but it turned out great." The World Cup continues in Milwaukee next week, with Sáblíková targeting the 3000m event.
