President Pavel talks to Volodymyr Zelensky about further aid to Ukraine

President Petr Pavel had a phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday. According to the Czech head of state, they spoke about the present security situation, the need to train more Ukrainian troops and to sustain the supply of artillery shells to Ukraine in the coming year. Under the Czech ammunition initiative, 500,000 pieces of artillery ammunition are to be delivered to Ukraine by the end of the year.

The Czech Republic is one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters in Europe. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Czechia has provided the invaded country with its own military material worth CZK 7.3 billion and trained more than 7,000 Ukrainian soldiers both in the Czech Republic and in Poland.  As a coordinator of international aid Czechia has participated in deliveries worth more than CZK 71.8 billion (roughly three billion US dollars).
