Speaker Pekarová Adamová wishes to discuss conflict of interest law further

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Markéta Pekarová Adamová would like the Chamber of Deputies during this election period to approve an amendment to the conflict of interest law, part of which was annulled by the Constitutional Court this week, the speaker said on Sunday on the CNN Prima News programme Partie Terezie Tománková.

After the court's intervention, the chairman of the Pirates group, Jakub Michálek, wants to push through the amendment to the conflict of interest law in parliament again. The so-called ‘Lex Babiš II’ sought to tighten the rules for media ownership by politicians and for the acceptance of subsidies by members of the government and their companies, starting this year. MPs of the opposition ANO party challenged it at the Constitutional Court. The court intervened in the law due to defects in the legislative process, and did not address the content of the law. Amending the law is not a legislative priority for Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
