Skiing season begins at resorts across Czechia
Several ski resorts in Czechia welcomed their first visitors on Saturday for the beginning of the 2024-2025 winter season, although with some limitations on operations. These are mainly larger resorts in higher altitudes, where skiers must expect some slopes to remain closed for a few more days. Cross-country skiers can also head to the mountains, as the trails are ready in many places.
In southwest Bohemia, Šumavský Špičák started its season, with five hundred visitors arriving on Saturday morning. On the first open slope, which is over 1.5 km long, there is approximately forty centimetres of mainly artificial snow. The temperature there is around -3°C, and snow has been consistently falling in the area for more than two weeks. Saturday’s five hundred skiers are an average amount for the beginning of the season, Jan Kasík, head of the service centre, told ČTK. In northeast Bohemia, the Dolní Morava Mountain Resort beneath the Králický Sněžník mountain also kicked off its season, with around six hundred visitors to the resort on the first day, according to Martin Palán, the resort's commercial director.
