Czech branch of Amnesty International holding debate to mark Human Rights Day

The Czech branch of Amnesty International will mark Human Rights Day, which falls on December 10, with a debate at it headquarters on Monday evening, focusing on the human rights situation in Slovakia. People will also be able to take part in a letter-writing campaign on behalf of the unjustly imprisoned. Amnesty International organises a letter-writing marathon every year, and last year numerous events were held in the Czech Republic to mark the campaign, with people writing almost 20,000 letters. The Letter Writing Marathon is the largest global letter writing event to help unjustly prosecuted political prisoners, dissidents and other persecuted people. In the Czech Republic, which has been participating since 2010, letters are written between 15 November and 15 December. Millions of people around the world join in, creating international pressure that the respective governments.
