Prague City Hall launches campaign against animal cruelty in connection with Czech Christmas tradition

Prague City Hall has launched a campaign against animal cruelty in connection with the tradition of buying live carp for the Christmas dinner table, which some Czechs still observe. The campaign urges people who buy carp from vats in the streets to leave the killing of the carp to the salespeople. They urge people not to take the live carp home and place them in the bathtub for several days or even release them into the Vltava where  they have a minimal chance of survival. Billboards relating to the campaign have appeared in the metro, and other places around the city, as well as on the Prague City Hall’s website.
