Rescuers save nine hikers stuck on Snežka Mountain

The Krkonoše mountain rescue service saved nine foreign nationals who got stuck on the highest mountain peak Snežka in a snow storm on Sunday. No one was reported injured. The service did not specify the hikers’ nationality, but said they had been poorly equipped for a mountain tour at this time of year. The service has appealed to tourists to behave responsibly when setting out on mountain tours, check the weather forecast, pack extra clothes, enough food and drink and a fully charged phone with map apps and the rescue service helpline. Last winter, two Polish hikers died attempting to climb Sněžka. Mount Snežka lies on the border between the Czech Republic and Poland. At 1,603.3 meters, its summit is the highest point of the Krkonoše, or Giant Mountains.
