Prague Zoo’s baby orangutan officially named
The latest addition to Prague Zoo’s orangutan family was officially named Harapan during a ceremony at Prague Zoo on Sunday. The name was selected from around 2,000 suggestions sent in by the public. The name comes from Indonesian and translates as 'hope'.
Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, British Ambassador to Prague Matt Field and Deputy Mayor Jana Komrsková participated in the official ceremony, which took place on Harapan’s one-month birthday.
The mother of the orangutan cub is 11-year-old Diri, who was also born in Troja. Prague Zoo has been breeding orangutans almost continuously since 1961.
