More layoffs as Czech Post cuts number of mail men and women

Some 250 members of staff at Czech Post, most of them mail delivery people, had their last day of work on Monday. This comes after the closure of 300 branches of the postal service around Czechia at the end of June, when 574 workers were laid off.

A spokesperson for Czech Post told the news site iRozhlas.cz that the firm was not concerned that remaining post men and women would be overburdened, saying that the widespread use of electronic communication meant that it had 10 to 12 percent fewer deliveries every year.
