Interior Ministry fined for collecting health data on citizens
The Office for Personal Data Protection has confirmed a 975,000 crown fine meted out to the Ministry of Interior for unauthorized police processing of data on the health of people who were ordered to isolate because of Covid. The case concerns approximately two million people who contracted Covid between April 2021 and March 2022. According to the office, the police collected personal data on the health of individuals on a mass scale. In doing so, the force overstepped its statutory powers and committed an offence. According to the law, the police may only collect sensitive data on individual citizens in connection with the investigation of a specific crime or offence.
