Petr Hladík to be named new environment minister
Petr Hladík of the Christian Democratic Party will be named the country’s new Environment Minister on February 10 by Petr Pavel, a day after the latter’s inauguration into the office of president, Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced at a press conference on Tuesday. The statement came after a meeting between Mr. Fiala and Mr. Pavel where the two discussed about coordinating foreign policy and establishing regular meetings in the future.
Petr Hladík was proposed for the position by the government last year, but outgoing President Miloš Zeman refused to name him into the office. The head of state gave the fact that Mr. Hladík’s office had been raided by the police and his computer seized during a crackdown on a corruption case in Brno, where he served as deputy mayor. No charges were filed against him.
