President Pavel appoints Petr Hladík environment minister
President Petr Pavel has appointed Petr Hladík minister of the environment. Prime Minister Petr Fiala proposed Hladík's appointment at the end of last year, but the former president, Miloš Zeman, refused to make the appointment. Deputy Prime Minister and Labour Minister Marian Jurečka has been in charge of the portfolio since the beginning of November. In the meantime Hladík has served as deputy environment minister.
Hladík’s nomination was questioned after his office was raided by the police and his computer seized in connection with a corruption case in Brno, where he then served as deputy mayor. No charges were filed against him.
