ANO leader welcomes gains in municipal elections, disappointed with turnout

Opposition leader and ANO party head Andrej Babiš has said he is satisfied with the election result since his party had significantly improved its standing in municipal elections and had 18 candidates who would be competing in the second round of Senate elections next weekend. However he said he had hoped for a bigger turnout. Turnout in the municipal elections was 46 percent.

The opposition leader had called on the public to treat these elections as a referendum on the government’s performance and indicated that he might reconsider his earlier-stated intention to leave politics.
