Czech government survives no-confidence vote

The coalition government of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala has survived a no-confidence vote in the lower house submitted by the opposition parties ANO and Freedom and Direct Democracy. Friday’s vote followed a session that began on Thursday and ran for a total of 22 hours.

The opposition tabled the vote after the head of the civilian intelligence service, Petr Mlejnek, was linked to a crime investigation. He stood down before the debate began.

The five-party coalition government has a comfortable 108 mandates in the 200-seat Chamber of Deputies.
