President Zeman appoints Karel Řehka as new Chief of Staff of Czech army

As of July, the current director of the National Office for Cyber ​​and Information Security and former commander of the army special forces, Karel Řehka, will become Chief of Staff of the Czech army. He was appointed to the position on Wednesday afternoon by president Miloš Zeman at Prague Castle. Mr. Řehka will replace Aleš Opat, who was removed by the president at the end of June.

Defence Minister Jana Černochová has said that Řehka's task will be to complete the modernization of the army, and to deal with the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU and the consequences of the war in Ukraine. Mrs. Černochová considers Řehka's experience at the cyber and information security office to be an advantage due to current cyberspace threats. Under his leadership, the office has repeatedly countered cyber attacks on Czech institutions and companies, many of which are attributed to Russia.
