Reconstructed “bone pyramid” to return to Kutná Hory ossuary

A reconstructed pyramid of human bones should return to a famous 14th century ossuary near the town of Kutná Hora this year, restorers announced on Thursday.

The former medieval chapel, which houses the bones of an estimated 40,000 to 70,000 people who died during the mid-14th century plague and in the subsequent Hussite Wars, has been undergoing an extensive renovation since 2014.

There are a total of four pyramids as well as other formations made of bones and skulls in the Sedlec ossuary, which attracted half a million tourists annually in the pre-Covid years.
