Senate rejects proposed amendment to Pandemic Law
The Senate has rejected an amendment to the Pandemic law which would give the government greater powers to enforce restrictions without the need for a state of emergency. The bill was rejected by 32 out of 61 senators present, including senators from the governing parties who proposed the legislation and pushed it through the lower house. According to its critics, part of the draft is in violation of the Constitution. The Chamber of Deputies can still override the Senate's veto. President Miloš Zeman has already said he is prepared to sign it.
