Government increases budget for Czechia's EU presidency in 2022

The Czech government has increased the budget allocated for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union that the country is to assume in mid-2022 by CZK 400 million, Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura announced on Wednesday. Mr Stanjura also said the government agreed that if needed, further money could be taken from budget reserves.

The original budget for the EU presidency, approved by the former cabinet led by Andrej Babiš, was set at CZK 1.4 billion. When the Czech Republic last held the presidency in 2009, the government approved a budget of CZK 3.75 billion.
