Czech Republic has new record one-day Covid tally of 28,469
Some 28,469 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in the Czech Republic on Tuesday. This is the highest figure seen since the coronavirus hit the country nearly two years ago. Screening increased this week with the introduction of twice-weekly tests at all workplaces.
Experts say up to 50,000 cases a day could be recorded in the coming weeks due to a surge in the Omicron variant of the virus.
The previous one-day record was just under 28,000 on 25 November last year.
