Covid testing starts as Czech children return to school

Testing for Covid-19 began on Wednesday at Czech schools, which reopened following two-month summer holidays. All children, with the exception of first-graders were to undergo preventative tests on their arrival at school; first-graders will be tested on Thursday.

As last term, face masks must be worn in corridors and cloakrooms but are not required in classrooms, except in the case of children who refuse to be tested or to prove that they are Covid-negative.

Some 110,300 children went to school for the first time on Wednesday, while the total number of elementary and secondary school pupils stands at 1.4 million.
