Reproduction number at its highest since January
The Czech Republic registered 159 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, which is 35 more than on the same day a week ago. The reproduction number has jumped to 1.35, at its highest since January 3.
The rise in cases, particularly in Prague and Central Bohemia, is attributed to the more contagious Indian variant of the virus, which is now spreading mainly among young people aged 15 to 29. So far it has not led to an increase in hospitalizations. There are currently 35 people hospitalized with the coronavirus, of which four are in a serious condition.
