Rise in Covid numbers following weeks of steady decline

The Czech Republic registered 164 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, 70 more than on the same day last week. The rise follows weeks of a steady decline in numbers and has triggered fears of a spread of the Delta mutation in the country. The reproduction number also reflects the change and is now close to 1.3, at its highest since the beginning of January.

There are now 8 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants on average, although in Prague, it is 27 per 100,000. The overall coronavirus death toll is 30, 308.
