Czechs mark legacy of St. Cyril and Methodius

Czechs are marking the state holiday of St. Cyril and Methodius, the Christian missionaries who came to Great Moravia in 862.

Around 15, 000 people have attended the traditional pilgrimage festival at Velehrad in South Moravia at the site where the two saints helped establish Christianity and translated the bible in Slavic languages.

The Days of People of Goodwill celebrations got underway on Sunday with a charity concert, which raised more than CZK 800,000 for the the victims of the devastating tornado that hit South Moravia two weeks ago. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of attendees was limited to 5,000.

The event culminated on Monday with a mass celebrated by Prague Cardinal Dominik Duka.
