Days of the People of Goodwill start in Velehrad, marking anniversary of Cyril and Methodius
The two day celebrations known as “Days of the People of Goodwill” (Dny lidí dobré vůle) kick off this Monday in the Moravian municipality of Velehrad to mark the anniversary of the arrival of the Apostles to the Slavs, Saints Cyril and Methodius, to Great Moravia 1159 years ago. One of the largest annual religious events in the Czech Republic, the Days of the People of Goodwill are traditionally held in conjunction with Saints Cyril and Methodius Day, a bank holiday that is celebrated on July 5.
The Monday programme will include hand copying the Bible and presenting the work of the Czech branch of Caritas.
The celebrations will culminate on Tuesday with a holy mass in front of the Basilica of Assumption of Mary and Saint Cyrillus and Methodius in Velehrad.
