European Parliament party leaders issue statement in support of Czechia, condemning Russia
The leaders of the main political groupings in the European Parliament have issued a call condemning the involvement of Russian intelligence in the 2014 explosion at the ammunition storage facility in Vrbětice. The declaration states that this is “another attack by people affiliated to the Russian state on a sovereign territory in the European Union”. It calls “on all [EU] Member States and the European Council to show their solidarity by adopting strong, common and concrete measures towards Russia in response to this attack”.
The statement was signed by the presidents of the European People’s Party, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, the Renew Europe Group, as well as the co-presidents of the Greens/EFA Group and the co-chairmen of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group.
It was welcomed by the Czech Vice-President of the European Parliament Dita Charanzová as an expression of clear international support for the Czech Republic.
