Jewish Museum chief slams minister over Covid-WWII comparison

The director of the Jewish Museum in Prague, Leo Pavlát, has condemned a statement by the minister of labour and social affairs, Jana Maláčová, who compared the coronavirus crisis to World War II. On Sunday the minister said even the war had not prevented children from going to school.

Mr. Pavlát said that Jewish children had been barred from all educational establishments. He said Ms. Maláčová's comments were extremely insensitive toward victims of the Holocaust and that in this case ignorance did not qualify as an excuse.

On Monday afternoon Ms. Maláčová apologised, saying the statement had been inappropriate.
