Covid-19 risk index rises as R number hits 1.01

The government’s Covid-19 risk index rose three points to 73 out of 100 on Monday due to the reproduction number reaching 1.01. There were 2,540 new infections registered in the Czech Republic on Sunday, 146 more than a week earlier.

The index has been above the fourth of five levels for 19 days. It is officially at the fifth and highest stage on the so-called PES index and so the strictest measures should remain in place.

Originally, the easing of guidelines was tied to the risk index, but Health Minister Jan Blatný said last week the index is no longer the deciding factor.
