Covid-19: record 3,793 new cases, 12 deaths recorded on Friday

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases continues to rise, with a record 3,793 people testing positive on Friday, up some 300 from the day before and the highest daily increase since the pandemic began.

According to the latest Ministry of Health data, some 42,320 people in the Czech Republic currently have Covid-19, with 13,466 testing positive this past week alone. As of Saturday morning, 1,134 people were hospitalised with Covid-19 and 699 had with the virus had died, including 12 on Friday.

A one-month State of Emergency begins on October 5. For the first two weeks, new restrictions also apply limiting attendance at cultural and sports events, as well as gatherings such as weddings or religious ceremonies. Secondary schools in high-risk areas are also closing.
