Mariánské Lázně spa resort in Western Bohemia
In our new photo series we present the second biggest spa resort in the Czech Republic –Mariánské Lázně in Western Bohemia.
The spa resort, nestling in beautiful surroundings in Slavkov forest, 600 metres above sea level, offers visitors a 180-metre long colonnade, charming pavilions, beautiful parks, pleasant cafes and cozy hotels. The town is endowed with over 100 healing mineral springs which are at the heart of the spa’s healing program that annually attracts thousands of visitors. One of the town’s most popular attractions is the Singing Fountain which has graced the spa grounds since 1986. The first melody for it was composed by the late Czech composer Petr Hapka. It now has eleven melodies in its repertoire.
Among the spas noteworthy visitors in the past were: King Edward VII, Emperor Franz Joseph I, the poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe, the opera diva Emma Destin or Thomas Alva Edison.
