Zeman visits Belgium at crucial point for EU expansion

Over the past few weeks, the Czech Prime Minister, Milos Zeman has been lobbying heavily for his country's membership of the European Union: Last week he was in Sweden, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the EU, and on Monday, he spent the day in Belgium, which inherits the presidency at the end of June. His Belgian counterpart, Guy Verhofstadt, has assured the candidate countries that Brussels will not stand in the way of the expansion process, but he made it quite clear that this year the candidates will have to quicken the pace of preparations for membership even further.
