Beckett Fund Congress opens in Prague
Representatives of many different faiths and denominations from Europe and the United States gathered in Prague on Wednesday for the 3rd Congress of the Beckett Fund. Peter Smith has this report.
Over the three days the representatives will be casting a retrospective eye upon the religious persecutions of the 20th century and hoping to reach a consensus upon how to better define the role of religion with the state. Pat Corton is the vice-president of communications at the Beckett Institute for Religious Liberty in Washington. Indeed, one of the integral principles behind the congress is the preservation of religious liberty and closer inter-faith cooperation. Alan Middleman, a Jewish representatives from Pennsylvania, believes the Fund can benefit the development of society.
