Seberle takes silver in Decathlon

Yes, sport now, and while the Czech Republic's decathlon star Tomas Dvorak didn't manage to bring home the gold, his colleague Roman Seberle at least brought home the silver. Seberle ended up with a final score of 8,606 points, 35 points behind Estonia's Erki Nool, who won gold, and 11 points ahead of America's Chris Huffins, who took the bronze. Seberle overtook Huffins after the 1,500 metres, leaving the American hanging on for bronze ahead of British world championship silver medallist Dean Macey.

Seberle told reporters he was very happy with the silver, and didn't feel robbed of the gold--an allusion to the controversy surrounding Erki Nool's final score. There were tears of joy at the Seberle family home in Rychnov nad Kneznou last night, but Roman Seberle himself had words of consolation for Tomas Dvorak, who finished sixth after struggling with injury and illness. "Last year and this year he won everything, but here [at the Olympics] it just didn't happen for him."

Turning to football now, and Slavia Prague beat AB Copenhagen 2:0 in the return leg of their first round tie in the UEFA Cup on Thursday night; goals came from Richard Dostalek and Tomas Dosek in the second half, and Slavia won 5:0 on aggregate. Meanwhile Slovan Liberec beat Norrkoping 2:1 at home in their UEFA Cup match. Norrkoping went 1:0 up early in the second half, but two goals in the space of three minutes from Slovan's Roman Jun and Jan Nezmar gave Slovan the result. And UEFA have just announced the draw for the second round: Slavia Prague are due to meet Greece's OFI Crete.
