A shooting in Herbenova Street in Prague 10, in which one person was killed and another injured, is being investigated as a murder and attempted suicide, police said. Investigators believe the victim was a 51-year-old woman, who was allegedly murdered by her 55-year-old former relative. The man then attempted to take his own life. Police said there is no further danger to the public.
"Upon arriving at the scene, officers found one deceased person with a gunshot wound and another person who had been injured," police said. They later added that the two were former family members and that, according to the detectives' preliminary findings, the woman was murdered before the man attempted suicide.

Twelve people were injured in a collision of two Prague Integrated Transport buses near the village of Lidice, west of Prague, on Wednesday morning, the Czech News Agency reported.
According to Central Bohemian emergency services spokeswoman Monika Nováková, one woman suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Prague's Central Military Hospital. The remaining casualties sustained minor injuries, including injuries to their arms and legs as well as abrasions.
The I/61 road is closed to traffic and police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

One of the country’s most popular music festivals, Colours of Ostrava, opens on Wednesday at the Dolní Vítkovice industrial complex. Over the next four days, the festival will offer around 130 concerts in different venues around the industrial zone, which is a European Heritage site.
This year's line-up includes Twenty One Pilots, Moby, Lorde, LP, Teddy Swims, Skunk Anansie and Aurora.
The festival also features a discussion forum, where more than 150 speakers will debate topics relating to artificial intelligence, the future of Europe, relationships, mental health, science and medicine.
The festival traditionally attracts tens of thousands of visitors from at home and abroad.

Czech motorway vignette prices are unlikely to rise automatically from next year. The lower house has approved in the first reading a government bill that would abolish annual indexation of vignette prices.
The opposition criticized the move as populist but failed to block the bill or send it back for redrafting. If adopted, drivers will continue to pay CZK 2,570 for an annual vignette, CZK 480 for a monthly pass, CZK 300 for a 10-day pass and CZK 230 for a one-day pass. Discounts for alternatively powered vehicles would remain in place.

Filip Turek, an MP for the Motorists party, said on Tuesday he was placing his role as the government's commissioner for climate policy and the Green Deal at the government's disposal until police determine responsibility for Monday's serious traffic accident in central Prague.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš called on Turek to resign after new footage showed him overtaking a line of vehicles in a lane from which he was not allowed to continue straight. His car then collided at an intersection with a Prague hospital vehicle transporting biological material under emergency conditions, with its lights and siren activated. The vehicle flipped over several times narrowly missing pedestrians. The driver of the hospital vehicle suffered an injury to his arm.
Filip Turek was previously investigated for speeding, after posting a photo on social networks showing his car’s speedometer at over 200 km/h on a Czech motorway.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said on Tuesday that Filip Turek (Motorists) should resign as the government's commissioner for climate policy and the Green Deal following Monday's serious traffic accident in central Prague.
Babiš made the statement after new footage emerged showing Turek overtaking a line of vehicles in a lane from which he was not permitted to continue straight. At the intersection, his car collided with a Prague hospital vehicle transporting biological material under emergency conditions, with flashing lights and siren activated. The vehicle flipped over several times, narrowly missing pedestrians. The driver was injured.
Babiš said he had already brought up the matter in a call to Foreign Minister Petr Macinka (Motorists) and told him that if the situation unfolded as it appears in the footage, Mr. Turek should take responsibility and resign from his post as commissioner.

Both reactors at the Temelín nuclear power plant could remain in operation for up to 80 years from their commissioning, Czech Industry and Trade Minister Karel Havlíček said on Tuesday.
That would allow the plant's two units to generate electricity until 2080 and 2082 respectively—20 years longer than previously expected.
Havlíček had already announced plans in April to extend the operational lifetime of Czech nuclear power plants to 80 years during a visit to the Dukovany nuclear power plant.
Extending the lifespan of both Temelín and Dukovany will require significant additional investment in modernization, the minister said.

Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka has pledged to strengthen both economic and political cooperation with Israel. Speaking alongside his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Saar, at the opening of the Czech-Israeli Business Forum, he said he would continue to support closer economic ties between the two countries as well as back Israel politically, including at the European level.
Macinka said the forum aims to foster new business contacts while delivering concrete results in the form of contracts, joint projects, investments and long-term partnerships. He identified the defence industry, cybersecurity and digital technologies, healthcare and biotechnology, and transport and logistics as the key sectors for future cooperation, adding that Czech companies should be viewed not only as suppliers but also as equal partners and investors.

Traffic in Prague was severely disrupted on Tuesday morning after an anonymous bomb threat prompted security restrictions at the city's main railway station.
Police evacuated the station and closed the adjacent Hlavní nádraží metro station. Train services were suspended for more than an hour, while a nearby section of the city's main thoroughfare was also closed to traffic.
The anonymous threat was received shortly after 8 a.m. As a precaution, police immediately shut the metro station before halting rail services and evacuating the railway terminal. Bomb disposal experts then carried out a thorough search of the premises.
Police later announced on X that no explosive device had been found, and the threat proved to be a false alarm.
