The Czech Foreign Ministry has lodged a strong protest with Russian Ambassador Alexander Zmeevsky over threats directed at Czech companies. The envoy was summoned on the instruction of Foreign Minister Petr Macinka (Motorists) and received by senior official Hana Hubáčková. Prague said such rhetoric toward Czechia, its businesses and allies is unacceptable. The move follows a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defence listing European firms producing drones for Ukraine, including companies with Czech branches. Moscow warned they could become military targets, prompting concern in Prague over the safety of businesses operating in the country.

Public Czech Television and Czech Radio have sharply criticized a government plan to overhaul public service media funding, warning it could undermine their independence and stability. In a joint statement, they said the proposal by Culture Minister Oto Klempíř (Motorists) would replace licence fees with state budget funding and cut CZK 1.4 billion next year.
The broadcasters argue the reform lacks a clear concept and creates legal uncertainty. They warn it weakens guarantees of independence, opens the door to political or external pressure, and strengthens media councils at the expense of editorial autonomy. They also highlight unclear definitions of public service, risks linked to funding from donations or grants, and the absence of firm rules for state contributions.

Restricting mobile phone use in schools has improved communication and relationships among pupils, according to principals in Brno. Several schools report that students interact more during breaks and are less distracted in class. However, researchers from Masaryk University caution that such bans do not automatically lead to better academic results. They argue that overall teaching quality and classroom atmosphere play a greater role. Czech schools set their own rules on phone use, with more than half already applying some restrictions. Debate over broader regulation continues among both government and opposition politicians.

Czech ministries are not managing state ownership stakes in companies in line with official rules, according to a report by the Supreme Audit Office. The watchdog found that ministries failed to meet several requirements set out in the government’s 2020 ownership policy strategy, which aims to ensure transparent and effective oversight of state assets. Problems included unclear rules, missing qualification criteria for supervisory board members, and potential conflicts of interest. Auditors also noted that some companies were wrongly classified as strategic and that ministries focused mainly on dividend income, contrary to the strategy’s broader goals. The state holds stakes in dozens of firms across multiple sectors.

Opposition parties Civic Democratic Party and Mayors and Independents are pushing to postpone a parliamentary vote on new members of the Czech Television Council amid allegations of bribery. STAN leader Vít Rakušan and ODS chairman Martin Kupka said the vote should not proceed until suspicions that some candidates accepted payments in connection with the election of Czech Television’s director are clarified. The allegations stem from a recording published by the news website Forum 24, reportedly capturing a discussion between council members about an unpaid sum linked to a vote. One of the figures involved has questioned the authenticity of the recording, while another denies the conversation took place. Lawmakers are expected to debate whether to remove the vote from the parliamentary agenda until the matter is investigated.
