Two-time Olympic champion Lukáš Krpálek won bronze in the over-100kg category at the Judo Grand Prix in Qingdao, China, on Sunday.
The 35-year-old Czech won three of his four bouts, losing only to Japan's Hyoga Ota in the semi-finals before defeating Azerbaijan's Jamal Gamzatchanov in the bronze-medal contest. The result improves on last week's fifth-place finish at the Grand Slam in Ulaanbaatar.

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute says temperatures reached 41.1 degrees Celsius in Doksany on Sunday, setting a new national record and marking the first time an official weather station in Czechia has recorded a temperature above 41 degrees.
The previous record of 40.9 degrees, also set in Doksany on Saturday, had already surpassed the 14-year-old record of 40.4 degrees recorded in Dobřichovice. Meteorologists said temperatures were still rising on Sunday afternoon.

Pavlína Flamíková and Anna Šantrůčková finished second in the final World Cup event of the season in Lucerne on Sunday, securing the overall title in the women's coxless pair.
The Czech duo, who won the opening event in Seville and finished third in Plovdiv, completed a full set of medals for the season. They led for the first 1,500 metres of Sunday's final before being overtaken by the American crew in the closing stages.

The ruling ANO party would win a general election held in June with 32.2 percent of the vote, according to a STEM poll for CNN Prima News, published on Sunday.
The Mayors and Independents (STAN) would come second with 13.5 percent, narrowly ahead of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) on 13 percent. The only other parties projected to clear the five-percent threshold for entering parliament are Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) with 7.9 percent, the Czech Pirate Party with 7.6 percent and the Motorists with 5.3 percent.
According to STEM, STAN has gained the most support since last year's election, while support for SPD has remained broadly unchanged. Support for both the Pirates and the Motorists has fallen slightly.

Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka says Prime Minister Andrej Babiš will lead the Czech delegation to next week's NATO summit in Ankara. Speaking on CNN Prima News on Sunday, he also indicated that President Petr Pavel would attend the meeting, adding that the government would announce the final composition of the delegation on Monday.
The government and the president have been at odds for months over who should head the delegation. The government argues that defence spending, a key topic of the summit, falls within its remit. However, the Constitutional Court has ordered that President Pavel be accredited and provided with full support to attend.
According to Macinka, the court's interim ruling did not overturn the government's decision naming the prime minister as head of the delegation. Deputy Prime Minister Alena Schillerová said the court's decision must be respected and that the public would learn on Monday that the president had been accredited.

Czechia has experienced another tropical night, with temperatures remaining above 20 degrees Celsius at around 40 percent of weather stations, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute said on Sunday. At several locations, temperatures did not fall below 25 degrees, a rarity recorded at only a handful of stations since measurements began.
Forecasters say the night into Monday is likely to be even warmer, with overnight lows expected to stay between 19 and 24 degrees, and even higher in some places.
The heatwave is expected to continue on Sunday, with daytime temperatures reaching 35 to 40 degrees and locally up to 41. Saturday already brought a new national temperature record of 40.9 degrees Celsius in Doksany, surpassing the previous record by half a degree, subject to official confirmation.

The Czech urban search and rescue team has arrived in Venezuela and is setting up an operational base in the area hit by Wednesday's powerful earthquakes, the Czech Fire Rescue Service said on X on Sunday.
The 70-member team, accompanied by eight specially trained search dogs, flew from Prague on Saturday and reached Venezuela early on Sunday via Curaçao. Nineteen members of the team remain on Curaçao after being unable to board the onward flight. They are expected to join the rest of the team as soon as possible.
Before departing, team commander Petr Vodička said footage from the disaster zone suggested some people could still be trapped alive beneath collapsed buildings and that the Czech rescuers would do everything they could to reach them.

Sunday is expected to be even hotter than Saturday, with temperatures forecast to reach 35 to 40 degrees Celsius across Czechia and locally as high as 41 degrees in the Elbe lowlands and the Ohře River valley.
The day will be mostly sunny, although isolated showers or thunderstorms may develop later in the afternoon and evening in western Bohemia.

Czech poet, writer and art theorist Věra Linhartová, regarded as the founder of Czech experimental prose, has died in Paris at the age of 88. Her death was announced on Saturday.
Linhartová emerged as one of the leading voices of Czech experimental literature in the 1960s before leaving Czechoslovakia for France after the 1968 Soviet-led invasion. She went on to publish exclusively in French and also worked as an art historian and curator, including at Paris's Guimet Museum.
In 1998, she received the Jaroslav Seifert Prize, one of Czechia's most prestigious literary awards, for her collection of French-language prose Mes oubliettes.
