The district authorities at Prague 3 are considering raising council housing rent by 20 percent, Czech Television reported on Friday. Social housing costs would remain the same. Similar plans are being brought up in several other Prague districts as well as in many cities across Czechia. Rising maintenance, repair and reconstruction costs are cited as reasons for the move.

Prague 3 currently has 1,200 council flats. Rents have not changed in the district since 2019. Market rates are currently around twice as high.

Team captain Jan Kovář opened up the score in the 18th minute, but Sweden’s Lucas Wallmark equalised at the beginning of the third period. The Czech currency, the Czech crown or koruna (Kč / CZK) is the strongest it has been compared to the euro in the last 14 and a half years. On Thursday when trading closed, it was valued at a rate of 23.69 CZK/EUR, the best exchange rate since July 2008.

A strong domestic currency is good news for domestic consumers and importers, according to the Czech News Agency, because it helps dampen inflation by making imported goods cheaper, including energy and raw materials. It is also a bonus for Czech tourists, because it makes their stays abroad cheaper. Conversely, it can be a problem for domestic exporters, as it reduces their competitiveness.

A fake video of Petr Pavel that was widely shared in the run-up to the second round of the presidential elections originated from a Telegram account belonging to the Kremlin-controlled media outlet Sputnik, according to the latest analysis by the Centre Against Hybrid Threats.

The video, which first appeared on a Telegram account called neČT24, had been misleadingly edited to make it appear to show Mr Pavel declaring that Czechia must wage war against Russia. The report thus concludes that Russia was trying to prevent Petr Pavel's election through disinformation activity.

The neČT24 Telegram account is the new account of Russian propaganda outlet Sputnik, which is on the EU sanctions list.

Czech energy giant ČEZ has launched legal proceedings against Russia's Gazprom for its cutting of natural gas supplies to Czechia last year, the Czech News Agency reported on Thursday. ČEZ is seeking compensation for damages worth around CZK 1 billion. The outcome will be decided by a three-member legal tribunal.

The Kremlin-controlled Gazprom has the world's largest natural gas reserves and a monopoly on exporting gas from Russia through a network of pipelines. Gapzrom started cutting supplies to ČEZ, as well as to other companies in Europe, after EU countries imposed sanctions on Russia last year over the war in Ukraine.
