Food prices in the Czech Republic may continue to decline for several more months. Analysts expect this based on developments in producer prices published today by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).

By contrast, inflationary pressures in the industrial sector are intensifying, experts say, as the impact of higher raw-material costs resulting from conflicts in the Middle East begins to make itself felt more strongly.

Experts expect the trend of falling food prices to come to an end during the winter. “The effect of excess supply will eventually run its course. Farmers will adapt, and the strong downward pressure on prices will naturally disappear. The only question is when, because everyone is facing rising costs for energy, fertilizers, animal feed, and other inputs,” Dufek said.

Students will once again have to pay more for apartment rentals this year. Those who want to find accommodation in a private apartment or shared housing instead of student dormitories should expect to pay up to 14% more in rent compared with last year. Students typically start looking for accommodation during the summer months before the beginning of the winter semester.

“In Prague, individual rooms were being offered on the Sreality.cz portal for 10% more than during the same period last year. In Brno, however, they cost roughly the same as they did last year,” said Hana Kontriš from Seznam.cz, which operates the Sreality.cz portal. The cheapest option is renting a bed in shared accommodation. The larger the apartment students rent together, the lower the cost of accommodation per person.

Tuesday will be the coolest day. From Wednesday onward, however, maximum temperatures should not be far below 30°C, and in Moravia they may even reach that level.

This is according to the forecast from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute.

The private partner would build the infrastructure and then operate and maintain it for the following 25 years.

The Czech government will discuss on Monday scrapping its Concept for Informing the Public about European Affairs, in place for more than 20 years since Czechia joined the EU, with one major revision.

It is to be replaced by new rules from January 1, 2027. “After more than twenty years of membership, the Czech Republic is a firmly established part of the EU. The state therefore no longer needs to primarily explain the basic principles of membership, but rather to communicate clearly about specific European decisions and initiatives, and above all about Czechia’s priorities and the positions we promote within the EU and why,” the Government Office said.

Details of the new strategy remain unclear, apart from the planned abolition of the Eurocentres.

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) has confirmed that Czech regions will not receive money from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure next year to repair lower-class roads.

According to Babiš, regional governments already have sufficient funds for road repairs from tax-sharing revenues. The regions recorded a combined surplus of 32.1 billion crowns in the first half of 2026, down 8.2 percent year on year. It was nevertheless their third-highest surplus on record.
